Building with bamboo is a sustainable practice as it doesn't require
polluting harvesting or energy-demanding treatments and doesn't harm our
forests
Having
completed the project carried out in Vergiate (Varese – Italy),
consisting in the building of the first permanent structure for public
use in Europe entirely made in colombian bamboo, the EMISSIONIZERO
Association has finally realized a touring pictures exhibition on the
use of bamboo as a high-tech performing natural material for a
sustainable architecture.
The
exhibition aims at framing that experience in an overview on the state
of the art of the most significant contemporary architectures in bamboo,
in order to spread the knowledge on its potentialities and promote its
uses.
Visitors
will have the possibility of accessing multimedia supports on bamboo
building techniques kindly given by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial
Development Organization) and INBAR (International Network for Bamboo
and Rattan) but also by various architects from Latin America. These
precious materials will be accessed from a computer provided by the
Faculty of Architecture of Genoa.

The
pictures will show constructions in bamboo of amazing value both
technical and aestethic, but also low-costs houses designed to
give a shelter to the many homeless still populating the world,
not only in the so called developing countries.

Right
before this first Edition of the Exhibition, EMISSIONIZERO is getting ready to participate to the World Bamboo Congress – New Delhi
(India), to present the Bamboo Pavilion in Vergiate recently completed,
whose construction was made possible by the hospitality and the
support of the Municipality of Vergiate.

The project in Vergiate was
started on September 09, 2002 with the first of a series of
workshops and was terminated with the delivery to the Municipality
of a 500 sqm pavilion made of culms imported from Colombia of
Guadua Angustifolia.
The
area, offered by the Council is located in the Parco del Ticino,
and is traditionally used for outdoor fiestas in the summer
season.
The structure in bamboo regenerates the site conferring it
a special relevance and visibility.

The
overall project consisted in the organization and leading of a series of
learning by doing laboratories addressed to students and professionists
operating in the field of bioarchitecture, during which the notions and
practices of the innovative building techniques for the use of a low
impact material such as bamboo were proposed.
