Il Padiglione di Vergiate è la prima struttura permanente a uso pubblico (e a tutt'oggi ancora l'unica) IN BAMBU' costruita in Europa. 

E' stata realizzata da EMISSIONIZERO con il contributo del Comune di Vergiate (Varese) tra Settembre 2002 e Giugno 2003 nel corso di una serie di workshop learning-by-doing.

Avrebbe dovuto essere disegnata e costruita sotto la guida del famoso architetto colombiano Simon Velez che era stato coinvolto da EMISSIONIZERO sin dalle prime battute.
E' infatti di Velez lo schizzo qui pubblicato, pervenutoci nell'estate del 2002 via fax. 

Sfortunatamente la progettazione esecutiva e la fase costruttiva immediatamente successiva non videro la partecipazione di Simon Velez, che ritenne di non rispettare l'accordo con EMISSIONIZERO senza neppure informare della sua decisione.

Numerosi portavoce non ufficiali affermarono si trattò di un problema relativo al trattamento "da cittadino di seconda categoria" subito da Velez da parte dell'Ufficio Visti dell'Ambasciata Italiana a Bogotà, che offese irreparabilmente il Nostro.

A meno di un anno dal tragico 11 Settembre e a meno di un mese dalla sua fissata partenza per l'Italia, Velez richiedeva un Visto Schengen per un anno... 

Tutta questa vicenda comica o tragica allo stesso tempo, che ha dell'incredibile e così poco ha a che fare con la promozione del bambù a uso edile per dar casa a chi non ce l'ha nel rispetto dell'Ambiente, non modifica l'alta considerazione in cui EMISSIONIZERO comunque tiene il forte impulso che l'Architettura Colombiana ha saputo dare alla riscoperta del bambù costruttivo.

The Pavilion in Vergiate is the first permanent structure for public use (and still the only one) IN BAMBOO built in Europe. 
It was conceived and constructed by EMISSIONIZERO with a contribution of the Municipality of Vergiate (Varese - Italy) between September 2002 and June 2003 along a series of learning by doing workshops. 

It should have been designed and built under the guidance of the famous colombian architect Simon Velez who was enrolled since the very early stages of the project by EMISSIONIZERO. 
It is infacts by Velez the sketch here reproduced, that was sent us by fax in the summer of 2002.
Unfortunately the executive design and the building phase immediately subsequent, did not benefit from the participation of Simon Velez, who decided not to respect the agreement with EMISSIONIZERO without even informing of his decision.

Numerous non official spokesmen said it was due to the inadequate behaviour of the Visa Office of the Italian Embassy in Bogotà who unforgivably offended and treated him as "a second class citizen". 

Less than one year after September 11 and less than one month before his agreed arrival to Italy, Velez was requiring a one year Schengen Visa...

But all this story, hard to believe and somehow comic and tragic at the same time, that so little has to do with the promotion of bamboo for building use to give a house to the homeless of the world while respecting the Environment, does not affect the high consideration in which EMISSIONIZERO still keeps the strong impulse that Colombian Architecture has been amazingly able to give to the rediscovery of bamboo as a building material.
